Last school summer 1956

Summer of '56

The great bycycle vacation 4 weeks through the northern parts of Wuerttemberg and Bavaria. Two friends and me, staying at Youth Hostels and with relatives. It was a time when the roads were open to bikes. The hostels full of other riders. Exchange of best routes, meaning no big hills to climb. Our bikes were heavy touring bikes with three gears, any steep hill meant you had to push your bike up hill on foot unless you got lucky a slow truck was going uphil and you got a grip fast enough on the tailgate and the truck would pull you up but you had to keep your eyes open for the cops. If caught they would haul you to the next station and report you to your parents as a bad boy.
